In July 2026, I spent a week in Tirana, Albania, where I took part in the protests of the Flamingo Revolution. The “Flamingo Revolution” calls for the repeal of Law 21/2024, which allows nature reserves to be converted into building land for foreign investors. This law also jeopardizes Albania’s long-awaited accession to the EU, which considers the protection of these areas valuable for Europe because they are home to rare animal species, including flamingos. My engagement with this issue as an artist seems relevant to me not only as a native Kosovo Albanian but also as a European. My travel projects are an exploration of my own identity.

By painting with “watercolors,” I’m exploring a new artistic path because I’m portraying something that has no form. Symbolically, water represents sensuality, emotion, sexuality, and life itself. “Be Water, My Friend” is a quote from Bruce Lee. I’ve drawn this Far Eastern philosophy from my experience practicing the martial art of kung fu. It originates from Daoism and teaches that water always finds its way. While growth always seems to reach upward, water sinks downward and rises again as vapor—it is always in motion, permeates everything, absorbs everything—it is both yielding and powerful at the same time. Engaging with water, rather than land and politics, helps me—just like water itself—to move beneath the political radar and remain free as an artist.
